It's Star Wars Day - May the 4th Be With you
Today's important questions - Does Cambridge Analytica represent the demise of the Death Star? Is Donald Trump actually a Sith lord and is Kim Jong-un really an Ewok?
It's a fair cop - I'm a Star Wars fan and I'm looking forward to all the clever ideas people will create online today on "Star Wars Day".
I'm warming to the idea of having particular days, weeks or months focused on a cause or celebration - they get people's attention and make them think a little more about an important topic or issue. I don't always want to buy a card for a special day though!
But how should we greet people today? .....Hmmm the answer is pretty obvious 'May The 4th Be With You' It's going to leave a few strangers quite puzzled, not unlike experiencing the complete absence of common sense in a company where they are a customer.
Perhaps all companies should have "Year of the Customer" where they drop some of the buzzwords and apply much more common sense? There's seems to be a lack of it in various quarters, but to be fair, there are many more B2B companies paying attention to how they treat their customers than ever before. They realise that the customer experience can have a significant impact on their bottom line or stock value.
So to those companies who don't always apply common sense I'll quote Master Jedi Yoda - "Do or do not, there is no try"
Every day is "Customer Day" at The Marketing Department.
Live long and prosper! :-)
